10 years of SKY implant system – change to ensure success
Ongoing change and adaptation to the requirements lead to success. The SKY implant system is a perfect example for this principle. Since the development in 2002 by Star Group International, which was founded by Prof. Dr. Manfred Lang (NY) and the cooperation with bredent medical, the implant system has been systematically advanced. Innovative features have always been based on current scientific research results and the users' requirements in order to be able to offer patients top-quality restorations. These new features are all based on the key principles and characteristics of the SKY implant system - ease of use, clarity and economic efficiency since each idea and concept is measured upon these guidelines.
Improvement of the implant surface to achieve the sandblasted and high-temperature etched osseo-connect surface (ocs®) was a major step to meet the scientific requirements on osseointegration and soft tissue apposition. With the SKY classic and blueSKY implants, the SKY implant system now includes two implant designs to achieve perfect clinical results both for supracrestal and isocrestal implant positions in accordance with the clinical situation.
Metal-free restorations can be fabricated with whiteSKY, a one-piece implant. The implant family is completed by the mini1SKY with reduced diameter, a one-piece implant with ball anchor and the mini2SKY, a two-piece implant with rotation-proof abutment or Locator®. A single tray for all types of implants facilitates work for the surgical team.
By introducing SKY fast & fixed, a milestone was laid with regard to effective treatment of the "generation 50 plus", i.e. patients who are facing edentulousness but still feel that they are too young for a removable restoration. Moreover, with SKY fast & fixed it was possible to combine the strengths of the bredent group and develop a comprehensive therapeutic concept according to the motto "Surgery and prosthetics - everything from a single source". Users receive a proven and perfectly matched system, which can be successfully integrated into the practice from the very beginning. More than 5,000 satisfied and happy patients confirm the success of this therapeutic concept.
In cooperation with users, the bredent group is going to develop comprehensive therapeutic concepts for young patients with the focus on single tooth restorations as well as for older patients who need removable restorations and successfully position these concepts in the market.
With a total of more than 300,000 implants in 10 years, SKY ranks among the well established implant systems in more than 20 countries, which has been repeatedly confirmed in major scientific publications. Consequently, we feel well prepared to cope with the challenges of the next 10 years.
